Today's Thought

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:31 NIV

Such a very powerful statement. God always has what's best for each one of us in everything even if we don't agree with the outcome. There are things that we think are against us, but God has the master plan. Pray and thank God for everything in life.

PB Carp

We went to the Great Salt Plains Lake and at the spillway my wife caught her pb carp. She was using my old zebco spincast for catfish and she horsed it up the wall. There are lots of great carp to catch there! The lake is also awesome for camping at with clean restrooms and showers. I highly recommend visiting there!

Livestock Show Creek Fishing!

This afternoon we were resting after showing our pigs this morning. I've driven by this creek a hundred times and I've always wanted to stop and fish it. Well today was warm and I decided to stop by it on our way back to the show barn for the auction.
After I got down to the creek, I noticed that it is much deeper than I would have imagined it to be. I ran back up to the Jeep and grabbed a 7ft ultralight spinning rod with 6lb test on it. I tied on a yellow beetlespin and got back down there and started casting. 20 minutes go by with no bites.
Then I cast out into the open and after reeling in a second I notice that the line went tight. I set the hook and after a short fight, I caught a really vibrant large mouth bass. It's mouth was red on the inside. It was the only fish that I caught there today.

Get out there and explore! Don't wait for tomorrow. Enjoy today! Tight lines!

Get out of that comfort zone!

I was talking to my brother-in-law last night and when he was here during Christmas, he picked up this rattling inline spinners at Walmart. We went to a local lake and he caught this nice bass. He lives in Corpus Christi and is mostly a saltwater fisherman. He tried that same spinner there and has caught a bunch of trout on it. My thought process is that most bass tackle WILL work on saltwater fish. The only thing that needs to be done is just try it! Get out of that comfort zone and try new techniques. The worst that can happen is that we don't catch anything or maybe we might have the most amazing day of fishing.

That's my thought for the day. Tight lines everyone!

Great Deals!

Always be on the lookout for great deals! I picked all of this up at a salvage retailer for $15.52. A great deal if you ask me!

The packs of gulp alive are swimbaits and so is the big tub. The little tub is shrimp which I picked up for my brother in law. The big gulp scent is crawfish and so is the little Yum one.

I am a budget fisherman. I don't have all the money in the world to spend on fishing. I pick up good deals where I can.

Mystery Tackle Box Elite January 2020 Unboxing

Today I'm going to review January 2020s mystery tackle box elite. First impression is that it's not a bad box. It's filled with a very nice selection of baits. Let's go over the baits in the box.

The Lucky Craft is a translucent rattling jerkbait. I really like the size of this one. The reaction is also a very similar jerkbait. The Castaic is a soft boot tail swimbait. I think that it's a little large. It does have a loop for a treble hook.

I was shocked to see a Googan Squad crank bait in the box. It says that it dives 3-7 feet but again I think it's a little large for our waters around here. The Karl's shiver crank dives deeper but it is much smaller. I do like the purple color pattern on it. The Z-Man TRD would be great on a Ned rig. My favorite in the box is the Molix nano jig. The dark color will produce well here.

The Penetration hooks are very nice and are very sharp.

The final bait is the Xcite Baits ubershad. I can see that tearing the bass up.

My final thoughts on the box aren't bad. Was two jerkbaits that are similar really necessary? I would of liked one more soft plastic. What do you think? Drop a comment and let me know what you think.

Snow Day!

We woke up this morning to everything being coated in snow. My wife went to the school and just as she had picked up all the kids, they cancelled school.
The district basketball game for this evening has been postponed till Thursday. My wife gets home and we cook breakfast and eat. It's stock show season here so we had to go out and feed the pigs.

This year we are showing spot and berkshire pigs. Both of which are gilts. The spot weighed 250lbs a couple days ago. Zelda, our berkshire, weighed in at 215lbs. Both have made weight for stock show this weekend.

I know that I haven't blogged in a while. Life kinda got in the way. I was laid off from one job and started another and absolutely hated it. I was living away from my family and just decided to come home. Since then I've been making up for lost time with my family. My goal this year is to keep up with my blog better.
