Quick Morning Fishing

I woke up early this morning and went to Government Springs Park in Enid for some quick fishing. I decided to use a wacky rigged senko and the ned rig. Within an hour, I managed to catch one bass on each rig.

The first bass on the wacky rig was a really nice one. The stick bait was made by o-bait. Outlet Bait and Tackle carries o-bait and also a nice selection of other baits. 

The second bass is the ned rig bass. I hope to get back out this afternoon.

Fishing in Enid,OK

We decided to go visit my grandma in Enid. Right up the road is a community pond called Government Springs Park. I got out there about 1pm and had no bites for hours. I was using garlic scented worms. Then a few hours later a truck pulled up and stocked the pond with channel catfish. Less than 15 minutes later my pole got a bite. They stole my worm. I rebaited and casted out. About 30 minutes later I landed a beautiful catfish.

About an hour later I landed another one.

It was about 5pm and I called it a day. Tomorrow very early morning I will head back out. I released these fish today. Tomorrow they will be lunch.

Fishbites for channel catfish?

Thats right! Saltwater fishbites for channel catfish. Back in early October, me and my family spent the weekend at my grandma's cabin which is by the Great Salt Plains Lake. I went out early on a Sunday morning to the spillway and casted a few rods out. On my zebco 202 I put a piece of clam flavored fishbite. Several hours later, a channel cat hit it. I managed to horse him in on that light line.

Last Tuesday I went out to the lake to try for catfish. On some of the hooks I put a piece of electric chicken fishbite and a small piece of liver. Catching that first catfish on a fishbite could of just been luck. The ultimate validation is whether or not it will catch a catfish at another lake. I can say that the liver/fishbite combo did produce.

If you get a chance to buy some fishbites, I highly recommend trying them. They don't stink and so far they work for me.

Baitmate Review

Everyone has an opinion on whether or not attractant actually work. Well last Tuesday I took baitmate classic with me to the lake. I was catfishing that day using liver. One rod had no attractant and the other rod did. I caught 5 fish that day. 4 of them were on the baitmate rod. That does make it seem that this stuff actually works. I am going to test this stuff a few more times before I make a final decision on it. For now, I'm leaning towards recommending that you use it.

My Wife Is Becoming Addicted

Not too long ago, my wife wasn't that much into fishing. Now she's getting into it. We spent all last weekend fishing. Then yesterday she sends me a pic of the tackle bag that she wants. Yes folks, she is addicted. This Mother's Day I'm going to do a fishing theme. Problem is, I'm 6.5 hours away working. But I have an Academy up the road. I'm excited to see her take an interest in fishing and I want to help nurture that.

Danny King's Punch Bait

My first bait to review is Danny King's Blood Punch Bait. This stuff smells awful. So I';m pretty sure catfish will love it. I used a #4 treble hook and punched it down and it didn't really stick that well. So I punched it again. On the the first cast it flew off. By the third cast after rebaiting it stuck.I didn't catch anything on it. But after the third cast, about 30 minutes later I reeled it in and it was still on there. It does take time to get used to it. I will revisit this bait to determine if it catches fish.

Catfish Bait Reviews

So I wanted to set some guidelines on how I'm reviewing the baits. First off, messiness. How messy is it to work with? Second, how does it cast? Third, does it catch fish? The first few that I'm going to review didn't catch fish. I'm not going to blame the baits. I will revisit them to determine how well they catch fish. After this post, I will post the first review. 

Back From Home

I just got back to Kermit after spending a few days with my family. So what did I do? I decided to do a catfish bait review. Over the next few day I'll write posts on the baits that I used. I am also going to write some posts on some new gear that I got.

New Start

So I have largely ignored this blog. Instead I focused on YouTube. But I have found that I can better express my fishing adventures in writing and pictures. I'm still going to cut YouTube videos but I'm also going to start writing on here daily.
